PACE - The Pennsylvania Alliance for Character EducationPACE is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance that supports the integration of character education with service-learning across Pennsylvania. PACE began as a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, which funded school-based character education in three areas: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Beaver County. The PACE section of the PSLA website is a resource for schools, teachers, students and community members throughout Pennsylvania, and beyond. This section aims to share best practices and lessons learned through the PACE grant, as well as to provide links to other model Character Education programs and resources. The PACE website hopes to support the expansion of character education throughout all schools in the state. This is in response to new Pennsylvania legislation, signed into law by Governor Edward Rendell on July 4, 2004. Act 70 Amendment to the Public School Code, written by Congresswoman Allyson Y. Schwartz, encourages the establishment of character education programs for all Pennsylvania schools. Read more about this legislation, and the recommendations provided for schools.
