Pennsylvania Alliance for Character Education

Character Education and Service-Learning Projects

February 8, 2005 at the Fez.

Students, teachers and Community Based organizations from western PA gathered in the Ballroom of the Fez Banquet Center to look at what it means to build character through participating In service-learning projects. The event
included training in the ICARE method or service-learning and the elements of
character established by the National Character Education Partnership. Students
also had time to talk openly with Community Based Organization staff members about potential projects and partnerships. The last part of the day was spent writing a project planning sheet as a school group. Each school left the day with a plan for a project which will be implemented over the next 2 months. During this implementation schools will create a brochure to use at the next event in late May where these students will return to demonstrate with their partners what they have accomplished.

ATTENTION: Individual project brochures for schools participating in this event should be completed and e-mailed to Sarah John (sarahj2@sas.upenn.edu) before the 15 of April so they can be posted on this site, and entered in final documentation.
